About
Alison Collins
I am not your average career coach.
I've actually been a recruiter and hiring manager!

My Background
With executive search, technical and general recruiting experience and a career spanning tech companies, startups, non-profits, healthcare, finance, hospitality and local government, I am an expert in my field and I know what employers, recruiters and hiring managers are looking for in the interview process.
As a San Francisco Bay Area-based talent consultant and career development professional, I have 18 years of experience in people and talent (HR and recruiting), consulting, training, and coaching. I've worked as an in-house recruiter and recruiting manager for Fortune 500 companies like Salesforce,
LinkedIn, Lyft and OpenTable, and in executive search, including over 5 years with Korn Ferry International. I've also led recruiting departments and managed teams of up to 12 recruiters.
In my career, I have screened thousands of resumes and interviewed thousands of candidates. My training and coaching experience spans from entry to executive level and youth to seniors.
In 2008, I received my BA from the University of Colorado at Boulder and in 2009, I completed the Global Career Development Facilitator program (GCDF).
How I Work
First, I am not a standard career coach in the usual sense of the title! I offer 3 distinct services (job search strategy, resume review, interview coaching) and usually only one session of each.
I do not offer general career coaching (involving career discovery, career transitions or goal setting, skills or interests tests) or or open-ended timelines. I do not want to keep you on the hook for the long term. Really. If this sounds different than others in this field, it is!
My philosophy is that the services I offer should not take months or need to be revisited over the long term. If you're ready to do the work, let's dive in, get it done and get you on your way. I want to give you the tools you need for success and launch you into your next phase without lengthy follow ups or rehashing the same points over and over. This saves you time and money. My goal is to empower you and increase your skills AND your confidence, so that you know what to do --now, and in future job searches.
If this doesn't sound like what you are looking for, that's OK! There are many career coaches and interview coaches whose service models are more traditional, where you can get more career guidance, frequent check-ins, and step-by-step support if that is what you want or need.
My Style
I am direct, professional and warm, with a casual/conversational communication style. I am fast-paced.
My goal is to provide honest feedback and realistic suggestions tailored specifically to you as an individual. I do not have scripts or a one-size-fits-all approach to my services because I believe that just doesn't work.
I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can get a sense of my personality and to see if we would work well together. This is such an important piece - not everyone will like my style and I invite you to fully explore this phase of ensuring that you find a consultant who fits your needs best and with whom you can really connect!
My Promise to My Clients
I will be genuine and honest
I will give you my undivided attention during our sessions and listen carefully
I will treat you with respect and care about you as a whole person
I will give you my full effort and do my best to help you grow during the time we work together
I will tell you if I think someone else would be a better fit for you
What I Expect of My Clients
I ask you to be willing to change, and open to trying my suggestions
I ask you to put in the time and effort to alter your approach and job search materials
I ask you to trust me in my experience and intentions
I ask you to speak up and tell me what you need or ask questions
My client's interest truly come first and I want you to succeed!
Guarantees
I cannot provide guarantees -- of landing an interview, getting a raise, getting an offer or any other specific benchmark -- because I am not the one who will be going to the interviews, doing the job searching or networking, or writing the resume - that all needs to be done by YOU. I will do my absolute best to equip you with the right tools, knowledge and skills to get where you want to be in your job search. There are no silver bullets, or quick workarounds to this. You have to do the work and be willing to make changes to see different results.
